Welcome to the Kentucky Public Protection Cabinet

Gov. Steve Beshear has signed an executive order creating the Public Protection Cabinet.

The Public Protection Cabinet is comprised of the Department of Alcohol Beverage Control, the Department of Charitable Gaming, the Department of Financial Institutions, the Department of Housing, Buildings and Construction and the Department of Insurance. In addition, the Crime Victims Compensation Board, the Board of Claims, the Board of Tax Appeals, the Kentucky Boxing and Wrestling Authority and the Kentucky Horse Racing Authority are attached to the Public Protection Cabinet for administrative purposes. The Division of Occupations and Professions, formerly a part of the Finance and Administration Cabinet, is also attached to the Public Protection Cabinet.

The reorganization will give us the opportunity to provide our services in a more efficient manner to our customers, the regulated community and the citizens of the commonwealth. Gov. Beshear and all of the agencies within the Public Protection Cabinet share a common commitment to improve the quality of life for all Kentuckians.

Our 800 employees touch the lives of many Kentucky citizens. If your money is deposited into a state bank or other financial institution, if you have ever watched a horse race, purchased an insurance policy or played a bingo game sponsored by a local charitable group, you have benefited from our work. If you have ever appealed a property tax assessment or applied for a building permit, you have dealt with one of our agencies.

As diverse as our agencies are, we have one common goal: to provide outstanding customer service to every citizen and business that we serve.
